Job Title: Heavy Equipment Operator: Finish Blade / Grade Checker

Job Type: Full-Time | 7:00 AM - 5:00 PM (occasional weekends/overtime)
Pay: Starting $20/hour, can increase depending on experience
Reports To: Site Superintendent or Foreman
About the Opportunity
A long-standing and reputable construction team is looking to add a skilled Finish Blade Operator to their crew in South Carolina. This role is essential to ensuring accurate final grading across a variety of civil and site development projects, including road construction, pads, utilities, and drainage work. The ideal candidate is highly experienced with motor graders, confident in both manual and GPS-assisted grade checking, and able to work independently to meet precision requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Operate motor graders/finish blades to perform accurate final grading, ditching, slope work, and elevation correction
Perform both manual and GPS-based grade checking using tools such as lasers, string lines, or survey equipment
Read and interpret blueprints, grade stakes, and site plans to maintain grading accuracy
Collaborate with supervisors, surveyors, and crews to ensure work meets project specs
Perform routine equipment checks and minor maintenance to ensure safe operation
Follow all jobsite safety protocols and contribute to a clean, productive work environment
Flag and communicate issues related to grade, elevation, or equipment performance
Required Qualifications
3-5 years of recent experience operating finish blades/motor graders in a construction setting
Proficiency with GPS grade control systems (e.g., Trimble, Topcon)
Strong understanding of grading standards, elevations, and drainage flow
Ability to read and follow grade stakes and construction drawings
Valid driver's license required; CDL a plus
Must be able to pass a drug screening and background check
OSHA 10 or 30 certification is a bonus
