Purpose:

The Director of Athletic Compliance ensures the institution adheres to NCAA and Great Midwest Athletic Conference rules and regulations for its 16 NCAA Division II men's and women's intercollegiate sports. In addition, this position, focuses on education, monitoring, and enforcement of compliance policies, and manages the athletic department's compliance program. The Director of Athletic Compliance serves as the primary contact for all financials aid related issues and is the liaison to the office of Financial Aid. The Director of Athletic Compliance also serves as the primary contract for the office of admissions and student recruitment.

Essential Job Responsibilities:
  • Create and maintain a comprehensive compliance program that addresses all aspects of NCAA Division II rules and regulations.
  • Provide ongoing education and training to coaches, staff and student-athletes on NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Monitor all activities within the athletics department to ensure compliance with NCAA rules, including recruiting, eligibility, and other areas.
  • Manage the documentation and compliance of all recruiting efforts and ensure the initial and continuing eligibility of student-athletes.
  • Utilize and manage compliance software and systems to track and monitor compliance activities
  • Provide guidance and advice to coaches, staff, and administrators on NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting and filing of all required NCAA forms and documentation, which would include the annual APC and ASR/GSR.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all compliance-related activities.
  • Work with other departments, such as admissions and academic advising, to ensure compliance across campus.
  • Remain current on changes to NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Represent the university at NCAA Meetings and events
  • Assist with policy review and development
  • Other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Strong understanding of NCAA rules and regulations, particularly for Division II
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in intercollegiate athletics or a related field.

Received: General.

Given: General with close supervision of less experienced team members and/or in regard to specific projects

Education/Experience:
  • Master's degree preferred; Bachelor's degree from accredited institution required.
  • 2 years of experience in sports administration and/or compliance.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Communication Skills/Requirements:

Able to effectively communicate verbally and in writing as to work requirements, work in progress, and/ or work completion. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain confidentiality is required. This position requires professionalism, competence and a positive demeanor in the performance of all duties.

Reasoning Ability:

Most work is moderate to advanced complexity and requires judgment depending on departmental needs. Able to follow instructions and directions requiring normal periods of concentration. Requires the ability to decide on a course of action. Must be able to manage, organize and prioritize multiple tasks.

Additional Information:

The Director of Athletic Compliance is responsible to understand NCAA rules and regulations in all areas including amateurism, eligibility, recruiting, financial aid, playing and practice seasons and awards and benefits. The Director of Athletic Compliance is expected to fully cooperate and participate in compliance related policies and procedures (Compliance Manual) within institutional and NCAA guidelines.
