Job Description: Under the direction of the National Director, Channel Business Development, and in collaboration with practice leadership and the Chief Business Development Officer, the Director of Business Development, Legal, Compliance & Risk is responsible for driving, monitoring, and improving sales performance for BDO’s legal channel service offerings including electronic discovery, digital forensics, information governance, cyber security, data analytics, forensic accounting, and investigations. This position also involves building the sales presence, identifying, pursuing new business opportunities, and closing sales aligned with the Firm, regional, and office strategies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain relationships with attorneys, primarily Partners in top law firms, as well as corporate counsel, compliance, and risk professionals within corporations.
  • Leverage a strong network of C-Suite and legal market contacts to generate new business.
  • Create and implement business development plans in collaboration with Advisory Principals and Managing Directors.
  • Identify activities necessary to drive opportunities and define cross-selling and key account programs.
  • Conduct monthly meetings with the Regional BD Director and practice leaders to design, implement, and report on business development and marketing plans.
  • Collaborate with practice leaders to understand service capabilities and report on market perceptions, competitor activity, and market trends.
  • Distribute business development goals and progress reports quarterly for feedback.
  • Manage pursuit and pipeline reports monthly.
  • Direct practice strategies and resources to improve sales effectiveness and ensure compliance with national processes.
  • Negotiate pricing and service delivery with prospects alongside Principals.
  • Provide feedback on processes, templates, and tools to National Business Development Services.
  • Coordinate with BDO Alliance USA and BDO International firms on initiatives as appropriate.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 5+ years of business development/marketing experience in a professional services environment or relevant industry, or High School Diploma/GED with 7+ years of experience.
  • Preferred: Bachelor’s in Business Administration or Marketing; Advanced Degree (JD, MBA).

Experience:

  • Proven track record with C-Level executives and referral sources.
  • Experience in professional services firms, including accounting, cybersecurity, data analytics, or electronic discovery, preferred.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Expertise in sales processes, business development planning, lead generation, pipeline management, and sales strategy.
  • Strong relationship-building skills with C-Suite executives and referral sources.
  • Ability to influence, lead, and manage change in a matrix environment.
  • Excellent communication, project management, and multitasking skills.
  • Willingness to travel up to 50% within the region.

Additional Information:

Salary ranges vary by location, e.g., California: $150,000 - $200,000, with similar ranges in other states.
